Kindergarten Teacher

Hi!  Welcome to Kindergarten!  I’m Linda Hipps, one of the kindergarten teachers here at Sullivan’s Island Elementary School.  Although, I grew up in Orlando, Florida I have lived in the Charleston area for 18 years.  I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the Florida State University.  After graduating I worked for 4 years as an Animal Care Specialist at SeaWorld Florida.  There I cared for many marine mammals, including dolphins, killer whales, sea lions, harbor seals, manatees, and polar bears.  I then became an Animal Care Specialist at Disney’s Animal Kingdom for 1 year in which I cared for a variety of large African mammals, such as elephants, giraffes, kudu, antelope, and zebra as well as birds such as ostrich and flamingoes.  I moved to the Charleston area in 1999.  I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching in Early Childhood Education from the University of Charleston.  This is my 16th year working as a teacher at SIES.  I have also worked at Kaleidoscope and as a kindergarten assistant as well.   I am married to Mark and we have 2 amazing boys, Isaac and Landis.  Outside of teaching, I love to spend time with my family.  I also love boating, walking our sweet dog, Linus, swimming, and reading.

I work alongside Tina Antonucci.  She is wonderful!  She graduated from SUNY New Paltz with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in history.   She has taught a variety of grades including 6th, 2nd, and kindergarten in both New York and Florida.  She has also worked as a reading and math interventionist in 3rd and 5th grades.   She moved to the Isle of Palms in 2017.  In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her husband, Rich, daughter, Alexis, and son, Trevor.
