CONGRATULATIONS
SIES MATH FEST TEAM!
 
 
Congratulations to the 30 4th and 5th graders from SIES who traveled to Blythewood High School in Columbia on Saturday, February 27 to compete in individual and team competitions. The statewide competition brought in hundreds of students at each grade level and covered all aspects of math curriculum. A special congratulations goes out to Matthew Dodds, who finished in the Top 10 among 4th graders and received a medal for his accomplishment, and also to the team's coach, 4th grade teacher Judy Callan.

Charleston County School District now offers a 24-hour toll-free hotline to anonymously report issues of bullying and other unsafe school conditions.  The hotline is intended to keep our schools and children safe, and all calls to the hotline are anonymous.

SIES 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year
April Hurd
 
     Mrs. Hurd is a special education resource teacher at SIES with 16 years of teaching experience.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Wake Forest University and a Master of Education degree in Special Education from North Carolina State University.  She is a member of the Student Improvement Council and the CORE Team, and she serves as the SIES Recycling Coordinator.  Outside of school, Mrs. Hurd volunteers with Crisis Ministries and as a Vacation Bible School teacher through her church.  We are proud to have her representing SIES!

Natalie Harden
 
     Mrs. Harden earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and French from Presbyterian College and a Master of Education degree from Cambridge College.  During the 2005-2006 school year, she earned National Board Certification in middle childhood and was voted SIES Teacher of the Year.  In her 11th year of teaching, Mrs. Harden is a member of the South Carolina International Reading Association and is a teacher consultant for the Lowcountry Writing Project at The Citadel.
