 NO BOOK LEFT UNREAD!
SIES will be competing with other elementary schools around the state in the SC State Department of Education's "No Book Left Unread" summer reading program. Students entering grades 1-5 in the 2009-2010 school year are encouraged to participate by completing a log of pages read during June, July and August and returning it to school by September 1. Prizes will be awarded to the SIES student and teacher who read the most pages, and new library books will be awarded to the schools with the most number of pages read. Students entering 1st and 2nd grades may list books read aloud to them. NBLU student reading logs are available at http://martha.alewine.googlepages.com , and additional summer reading information is available to the left of this screen or by emailing Ms. Palmer. Have a wonderful summer and REMEMBER TO READ!
 Welcome Saeri Yu!
We are very excited to welcome our wonderful intern from Seoul, South Korea. A student at Hanyang University, Saeri has been busy visiting classrooms, preparing a presentation on Korea for our students, and assisting with kindergarten and art classes. She has already provided a great deal of assistance in many different aspects of the school.
Saeri Yu was highly involved in volunteer opportunities in her native Korea, having served with the Hanyang Voluntary Service Club, at an elderly nursing home, a halfway house, a grape farm on Daebu Island, and at the Ansan Adolescence Center, where she tutored students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
Miss Saeri says that this internship gives her a chance to live out her dream. She is eager to teach us about Korean culture and enjoy the American way of life as well. Cultural experiences she will share with us during her time at SIES will include basic Korean language, culture and life.
Welcome, Saeri. We are so happy to have you!
