Principals' Message

At Sullivan's Island Elementary, we strive to provide a state-of-the-art learning experience through the implementation of our school vision:  To grow inquiry based learners equipped with the skills to explore and contribute as stewards of our world and our environment. Students learn about the coastal environment through authentic math and science experiences in the Wet Lab, STEM Lab, the adjoining nature trail/beach, and school garden.  They also participate in a Spanish Exposure program taught by a certified Spanish teacher who is a native speaker.   Students in 4th and 5th grade participate in elective style Special Interest Units which help connect learning to college and career readiness.  These units of study have included Chinese, photography, trail exploration, nutrition, kindness club, storybook coding and many other engaging, relevant topics.

Students and staff work together to implement a Positive Behavior Interventions and Support program, RAYS, which focuses on being Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Doing your best.  For the past two years, Sullivan’s Island Elementary has been awarded the National Alliance for a Healthier Generation Award and has been a finalist for the Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness Award.

Our teachers model a positive growth mindset as they actively seek out new and effective instructional strategies. Professional opportunities have included: Google Classroom, Mindfulness, Blended Learning & Digital Platforms, Positive Behavior Systems, Math Workshop Model, and our annual environmental staff retreat to the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge.

At Sullivan’s Island Elementary we believe that school, family and community must share the responsibility of educating our children.  Thank you for your support in helping develop our future graduates and world leaders!
